The basic idea for the development of MBT physiological footwear was born roughly 3.6 million years ago. At the time, our ancestors began walking upright - not, however, on today's hard, flat surfaces made of asphalt or concrete, but on natural, uneven terrain (i.e. meadows, sand or forest floors). Still today the human loco motor system is designed to move on uneven ground in order to remain healthy - only in this manner is the body continuously placed in a natural state of instability that is compensated for by the muscles. This in turn trains important muscle groups that are otherwise neglected.

The consequences of walking and standing on hard flat surfaces are omnipresent: back problems and joint afflictions. To counteract these problems, MBT developed the anti-shoe. Contrary to conventional shoes, the anti-shoe features a very special sole that creates a natural instability, thus activating important muscle groups. The instability that is so crucial for the human body is emulated by the patented sole construction, making it accessible to everybody that must walk or stand on hard, flat surfaces. You can recognize MBT by its unique, curved sole and its core - the so-called Masai Sensor in the heel.

The soft Masai Sensor creates an uneven surface, creating a natural instability to which the body reacts with small compensatory movements. The curved midsole with its integrated balancing area necessitate an active rolling motion and encourage the body to stand up straight. The result of the interplay of these elements simulates healthy barefoot walking in the sand. This activates neglected muscles, which in turn has a positive effect on the entire body. Strain on the back and joint is reduced, regardless of whether the MBT wearer walks or stands. The activation of these muscles also trains the stability and postural systems in the entire body, stimulates the metabolism and tightens the body. MBTs are suitable for anyone who would like to do something for their health, regardless of, or whether they choose MBTs for preventative reasons or due to a current condition.

Various scientific studies by independent institutes document the many positive effects on the entire body. The MBT Academy - the company's own research division - collaborates with universities on further studies in order to research the effects of MBT even more thoroughly, such as the therapeutic applications of MBT after an Achilles tendon tear, and the transition into everyday use. More and more doctors and physical therapists recommend MBTs as an important therapeutic instrument, and an increasing number of top athletes use MBTs as a small training and regeneration centre.
